Recent Press Coverage

Below is a summary of the Campaign’s recent interviews in the press. Coverage has been both prominent and extensive both nationally and regionally.

DAILY TELEGRAPH/DAILY EXPRESS/DAILY MAIL….The ‘Lessons in Swearing’ at a Bradford school issue led to our Chairman being interviewed by the Barnsley Chronicle and resulted in the Campaign being quoted in major stories appearing in the above nationals on 14 July.

THE TIMES….A two page article ‘Time to watch our Ps and Qs’ by Features Editor Damian Whitworth detailed our Campaign to encourage a courteous welcome to visitors and tourists through the Team London Volunteers for the Olympics. This excellent article appeared on 19 July.

DAILY TELEGRAPH….Matthew Norman’s ‘Final Whistle’ column advocated (with some degree of tongue-in-cheek) that our Campaign should back a crusade to have the retiring England Cricket Captain Andrew Strauss elected as the “most courteous person who ever lived”. He added that “two million texts and calls for from National Campaign for Courtesy members” would ensure he won the ‘BBC Sports Personality of the Year’ title. This very funny column appeared on 31 August.

DAILY EXPRESS/DAILY MAIL….Freelance journalist Tammy Hughes interviewed the Chairman about children and their manners on 5 December which resulted in stories appearing in 6 December issues of the Express and Mail. This led to a live interview on BBC Radio Humberside & Lincolnshire with presenter Peter Levey on 7 December.

EVERGREEN….We are always appreciative of the coverage we get from that wonderful national magazine ‘Evergreen’. In its Summer edition PERCY BICKERDYKE included our Courtesy Test leaflet questionnaire in his ‘Percy’s Post Bag’ pages. Two new Campaign members was the result!

LOCAL PRESS….For all the local newspaper coverage on presentations of our Certificate Awards to so many worthy recipients. Meanwhile, we must mention the wonderful three-page article on our North West Regional Executives ALAN COLES and PHIL KING that appeared in the August issue of THE LANCASHIRE MAGAZINE.

‘SUPERLINK’ SUPPORT: We were delighted to read member RICHARD POPPLE’s excellent article about our Campaign and the activities and aims published in the Diamond Jubilee 2012 issue of the West Midlands Pension Fund’s Superlink magazine. Richard’s article not only covered the history of our Society but included our Courtesy Test questions, subscription rates and contact details. Thank you, Richard.

“MR SEASIDE GETS THE GONG”: This was the Southport Visitor newspaper’s front page heading that announced the Queen’s Birthday Honour of the British Empire Medal award made to our North West (South) Regional Executive PHIL KING. Formerly the resort’s Director of Tourism, he is affectionately known as ‘Mr Southport’ and this Award has been given in recognition for his tireless support for his hometown and his involvement with the Southport & West Lancashire Normandy Veterans. Phil and his wife MAUREEN will be invited to a Buckingham Palace Garden Party to celebrate his achievements.
